COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
http://lakdiva.org/coins/notes/iapn_ibscc.html
My common sense notices that "they" (read crooks) CONTERFEIT coins that they can make a LOT of money on. So be very careful buying "coins" that can appear on face to gain extra money because of the type and date(s). I.E. French gold coins around the REVOLUTION. I'm sure you get the "picture." :5_1_120::5_1_120: |
Re: COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
I just picked up a 1780 Austrian Thaler restrike and noticed that it is slightly larger then the other Thaler I own.
I'm wondering if it's a fake? Does anyone know if there is variation in Thaler restrike diameters? Thanks. |

Re: COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
The 1780 Austrian Thaler restrike should weigh 28 grams (total weight). You might have the following website but if not, here is a link to more information on this coin.

"...they" (read crooks) CONTERFEIT coins that they can make a LOT of money on."
The Chinese are reportedly couterfieting common date Morgan silver dollars and making them look circulated. I'm told it costs them about fourteen cents to produce the coin and they view selling 'em at $12.00 as making a lot of money. |

That said. Most CROOKS are somewhat greedy - MOST being the keyword. There are always the low ball cheesebags - however all that I caught was with counterfeit $50 and $100 bills in the 1970s when they could really buy something! I rarely even saw a PHONEY $20 bill. Guess they were just greedy too. :5_1_120::5_1_120: |
Re: COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
"...Good INTERESTING post. I agree ONE has to look at all situations. Since it cost more than $12.00 - however for a slabbed coin to BE slabbed - I would immediately suspect anything by initial price if it was out-of-whack."
From what I understand, the Chinese are not slabbing the couterfiet Common Date Morgans. Rather, the coins being marketed naked. Buyer beware. |
Re: COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
The Chinese are making fake slabs too.

Re: COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
so how in the world are we meant to be able to tell if the whole dam slab is fake? is buying from a large online dealer a reliable method? I am starting to wonder if even they can be tricked.......is there some special method they use to tell real from fake?

So buy common dates - ain't no rocket science - common sense - hope you GOT some - but many do NOT. |

Re: COUNTERFEIT coin NOTICES
so i received my counterfeit coins from ebay that i ordered....liberty and st gaudins gold replicas....they look nice. the weight is definitely light but the look is good. plus eventhough the auction had the word replica on the coins, the actual coins received did not.
